Here are the two builds I came up with, having trouble deciding.

In case anybody is wondering, I have the WD Black HD as my main data drive, the Segate to backup to, the SSD for applications, and the 500 GB drive to backup the SSD.

What I will use this computer for

  • my every day machine-I'll use an old laptop during class for cloud based stuff (Google Drive, Evernote, Wunderlist, Dropbox)

  • using Lightroom and Photoshop

  • importing and editing video in Final Cut Pro X (nothing crazy just short clips no more then 20 min or so)

  • schoolwork (paper writing, reading)

  • storing downloaded movies and tv shows hence the large HD's

My questions and things I want are as follows

  • How do I figure out how many case fans I need?

  • I'm I better off with the i7 processor? (I can get it at Microcenter for $250 but wonder if it will be much of a difference from getting an i5)

  • Which is the better build?

  • For the first build I used the TonyMac86x guide and was wondering if I really need that particular CPU Cooler, Video Card, and Power Supply?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This build is the one that I used my own computability check.
