Hey guys,

I'm writing this purely because I desperately needed the help of many different online resources to get through this fairly tricky (for me at least) process. Glad to have made it to the end though! Hopefully this post might help some of you out there.

Just letting you know that I got everything (I think) working on this OSX Yosemite hackintosh build:

  • Case: CoolerMaster Elite 130 Mini ITX Case

  • MB: ASUS Z97I-PLUS Motherboard

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 4460

  • RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury HX316C10FBK2/16 16GB (2x8GB) Black

  • GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix DirectCU II 4GB

  • PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 600W ST60F-PS 80 Plus Silver

  • SSD: Intel 530 240GB SSD <-- Windows 8.1 install

  • SSD2: Intel 530 180GB SSD <-- Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10 install

  • Monitor1: ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q Gaming Monitor

  • Monitor2: Dell U2412M Monitor

  • Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (original)

  • Mouse: Logitech G700s rechargeable wireless laser gaming mouse

  • Headphones: Logitech G930 7.1 Wireless Gaming Headset

  • USB: Some Kingston USB 3.0 8GB thumb drive

This is my first PC I've ever built by myself, and also my first hackintosh build (I own a 2013 macbook pro retina, which is where I sourced my OSX install from). I decided to make this as I wanted an all in one beast that I could do gaming on and run Apple's Logic Pro X software on.

I firstly installed Windows 8.1 onto the 240GB SSD which was fairly straight forward. Next up was the OSX install. I ran into a few problems so I'll post them here in case anyone who makes a similar build runs into these issues.

I used Unibeast 5.0.2 and Multibeast Yosemite 7.0.2.

BIOS/UEFI settings for this mobo:

  • First reset to default

  • Boot/Secure Boot/OS Type = Other OS

  • Advanced/USB Config/xHCI Mode = Auto

  • Advanced/System Agent Config/Graphics Config/Primary Display = PCIE

  • Advanced/System Agent Config/VT-d = disable

  • X.M.P (usually you can find this easily on first page of the bios ) = profile #1

  • I also needed to change my CPU fan RPM monitoring to disabled, otherwise I'd get CPU fan errors 80% of the time I try to boot up (the CPU fan took a few seconds to kick in for some reason).

Issues:

  • When trying to use Unibeast to install Yosemite onto my 8GB Kingston flash drive I got an error message saying that the yosemite download was incomplete. Ended up having to delete it and redownload it, then it worked fine.

  • After trying to boot off the USB into the installer, the little grey status bar would only make it about 1/5th of the way before coming to a complete halt. Waited for 10 minutes, still no progress.

I tried just using the following argument in the boot loader command line to continue: (press any key to bring up the command line from the boot loader to enter your arguments:)

-v

This enables "verbose" mode, which is basically just a huge log of all the actions the system is taking instead of a progress bar. It got this far then halted:

[IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed

From here I needed to restart my PC, then I ended up needing to add some arguments in the command line to progress. These ended up working for me:

-x -v nv_disable=1 GraphicsEnabler=No

  • After successfully installing OSX, I rebooted then tried to boot from the newly partitioned OSX drive to complete the setup process. Got some kernel panic messages. To get around this issue I need to use the following boot loader argument:

-s

This allowed me to get into a command line mode where I entered the following:

  • mount -uw /

  • mkdir ~/backup

  • cd /System/Library/Extensions

  • mv NVD*.kext ~/backup

  • reboot

System rebooted and when I tried to boot into the OSX drive, it worked! My attached logitech g930 headphones were working instantly during the setup process (these are my only sound outputs I'm using).

  • System was generally running a bit slow once I got to the desktop. Only my Dell U2412M was working at this point (plugged into HDMI of GPU, my PG278Q was plugged in via displayport of GPU). Ethernet networking was working instantly, but wireless wasn't. Limited to 1024x768 resolution (prior to GPU driver install). Ran multibeast with these options: DSDT Free Apart from that only thing I changed was: Customize > 1080p Display Mode (ticked) Build > Install

Next thing I did was install the nVidia web drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/78853/en-us

Rebooted, both monitors started working fine at native resolutions! Looks crisp as, especially at 144hz!

Lastly, to get bluetooth and WiFi working, I downloaded the attachment listed in the first post of this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/300293-report-asus-z97i-plus-gtx-770-mavericks-1094/

And I downloaded KextBeast http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=32

And I installed bcm4352.kext and BTFirmwareUploader.kext (keep them on your desktop). Didn't even need to restart and they were both working fine instantly.

Let me know if you need any help with a similar build and I'll try to help, or if you want me to elaborate on anything.

To those making a similar build, good luck!
