I currently have a ThinkPad X220t running Windows 8.1, and I've been thinking about installing OS X or Linux on it for a while now.

Specs:

  • Intel i7-2620M

  • Intel HD Graphics 3000

  • Proprietary Lenovo motherboard

  • 8 (2x4) GB LV memory

  • 320 GB HDD

  • 63 Wh battery

  • 1366x768 IPS display

  • Intel gigabit ethernet

I plan on running Yosemite Zone through VirtualBox to create the USB boot drive, partitioning my HDD, and then following this guide. I'm aware of Lenovo's WLAN card whitelist and I'll be getting a USB dongle to compensate. I've gotten Mavericks (well, Niresh) installed on another machine before with the only an issue with HDMI audio, so I have some experience with this, but that was on a desktop with fully compatible hardware, so I was wondering if there would be anything to watch out for. Also, I thought this was a great excuse to finally grab that 500 GB mSATA SSD I've been eyeing for a while. Ideally I'd be partitioning that for Windows and OS X and keeping my 320 GB HDD as an internal storage drive. Would that work? I've heard that OS X has issues with multiple drives.

Thanks in advance.
