Haven't upgraded in a long time since she's been running rock solid - if it ain't broke don't fix it. But on my MBP the new spotlight and messaging features are really useful so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Yes - I have a full bootable backup of my startup drive (using SuperDuper). Might even make a 2nd before I start down the rabbit hole.
Do I need to do a full format (as outlined in step 4.6 HERE)?
If I remember correctly, the new install detects my old 10.8.5 backup (internal drive) and restores all apps and settings from that. Do I remember correctly?
Any other issues to be aware of? I tried this with Yosemite awhile back and there were a few issues. I'm sure with a little digging I could have resolved them but I must have been in an impatient mood because after a day I decided to revert back.
Thanks in advance. This has been a wonderfully helpful community for me and many others.

[Edit: formatting woes]
