I don't want to sound elitist here. I have been experimenting with, and using Hackintoshes since the original 10.4 release, and I must say I am amazed with the lack of research, and obsession with cutting edge OS X installation going on here.

I thought this subreddit is called /r/hackintosh, but it may as well be called /r/yosemite_hackintosh -- because no-one here is the least bit interested in installing the tried-and-true previous release - Mavericks 10.9.5.

This is a particularly easy install, with HEAPS of working kexts for every conceivable piece of hardware. Support on the forums is mature and ample solutions abound. Chameleon/Chimera is still going strong, and works beautifully with Mavericks.

If everyone here (mostly with failed installs) could take a step back and ask yourselves "Do I really NEED Yosemite?", and realise that your Mavericks install will almost certainly go ahead with a minimum of trouble... and performance under Mavericks is decidedly smoother than under Yosemite. You will learn a lot more by doing this, than you will by downloading Niresh 10.10.2 and trying to install it on the first computer you see (and fail).

Once you have Mavericks running the way you want, do some research on your existing hardware, find the kexts/bootloader/patches you need for Yosemite (will take at least a week, if you do it thoroughly). Prepare those files in a format you can easily access, and have in place emergency boot procedures -- and then and ONLY THEN, you should attempt installing Yosemite.

Many thanks for reading...
