So I've been running my G751JT for a couple months now and I can vouch for it being a great laptop for hackintoshing. It's a gaming laptop with a 970M but without Optimus, so full GPU acceleration works. The issue I'm running into is with external displays.
- Plugging in an HDMI monitor works most of the time
- Plugging in a VGA monitor works most of the time
- Unplugging an HDMI or VGA monitor causes the internal display to freeze on a static image and it's no longer recognized by the system. If I plug the external display back in, the external display will still work. I have to reboot to get the internal display back.
- With some HDMI monitors, the internal display will go dark from the start and will not be available , I have to reboot to get it back.
- The Thunderbolt port doesn't work with mdp->hdmi adapters at all. That's okay.
I'd like to use this for VJing without having to set up a desktop at venues, but I need at least 2 predictable outputs and can't lose my internal display. I've been able to make do with a triplehead2go from the VGA port, but it's not ideal. If possible I'd rather not have to depend on VGA at all.
- I'm running the latest web drivers, nvidia seems to have pushed out a second update today
- I use Clover
- Acceleration does seem to work well on all ports when they work
- The internal display is listed as being Displayport rather than LVDP
- The backlight controls aren't available for the internal display, possible because it's connected by an internal displayport or possibly because I need to edit my DSDT to control it. This may be related to the main problem.
- I've tried injecting the EDID of the internal display through Clover, but then Clover itself won't load. I haven't tried overriding the EDID in any other way yet.
- I've tried using a custom EFI string in Clover
- I've tried setting the number of ports to 4 in Clover
- I've tried the NvidiaGeneric flag
- I haven't tried the display-config string in Clover as I haven't found a good guide for it
Any ideas?
