Hello everyone. I have been building some (±5) hackintoshes this year. This is what i found:
I have a small PC business building computers. It's a nice job but building hackintoshes is 75% of the jobs (they're very popular)
The specs i use:
I only have used z97. I used 2 motherboards: Gigabyte z97x-ud3h Asus z97 pro
I also only used maxwell gpu's
And i once used a thunderbolt card
So not very hard.
I installed yosemite and later el capitan.
So, useful stuff now: Things i ran into:
-the gigabyte motherboard had a overheating issue. The cpu had a standadd vCore of 1.45v. Way too high. Seems to be common -i always install with hd graphics because it's much easier. But i had an issue where when updating to el capitan the nvidia driver wouldn't get selected anymore. I wanted to fix it by adding nvda_drv=1 to the config.plist but turns out i used the wrong one. Always use the EFI mounted config file people, not the one in your clover folder. I had an issue where the monitor didn't recognize that the hackintosh would go out of sleep. Fixed by updating to el capitan. I had an issue where the hackintosh would freeze. Also fixed by updating When installing the thunderbolt card i saw that it doesn't get recognized without a device in it. It's a really easy install tho and i LOVE asus boards for hacks from now one. Easiest experience ever
My general tips for novice builders: -use generally advised hardware. Z97, maxwell etc. -don't post every issue to /r/hackintosh. Most are common. -never use the tonymac forums. I got banned for talking about an illegal bootloader. My next account (for downlaods) got banned for multiple accounts and when i asked to be unbanned and remove my other account i got an IP ban without warning. I hate to say but the tonymac admins are very rude. They're just dicks
-be rational, but try everything apart. When you don't know what to do anymore, sleep a night, browse the Internet and you'll have more options in no time,
-ALWAYS install with only 1 RAM DIMM, no gpu (hd graphics) and clean clocks (no overclock). It makes everything easy
-please, just please never use usb 3.0 for installing -_-
I hope this has helped a bit. If you'd like you can always contact me dor help because i really like. To help (:
Tl;dr: some tips to use and problems to encounter
