Okay, so for the past few months I've been debating on a lot of things hardware related. I have a desktop that I built two years ago, the specs are as follows:

4690k

8gb RAM

r9 290

Asus Sabertooth z97 mark 2

840 EVO SSD

600w EVGA PSU

I've been debating on:

  • A: Convert desktop to a hackintosh/windows gaming pc and upgrade to the 2016 MBP 13" to downsize as I'd only use it for portability and on the go.

  • B: Use my Maxed 2015 15" MBP for a while, then upgrade to the 2016 MBP for TB3 and other upgrades then use an eGPU solution with a gtx 1070, and completely do away with my desktop by parting it out to pay for this.

My final question is how hard would it be to install El Capitan on my desktop, and what is your opinion on Laptop/eGPU option as my only computer?

I currently have an Acer x34 so I'd like to be able to use the Gsync feature. (Acer sent me the wrong monitor and I got it for $600 bucks, originally ordered the xr341ck Freesync model, as both my 290 and m370x are AMD). But I wouldn't mind upgrading to a gtx 1070 in a month or so.

Would the 1070 be bottlenecked by TB3 speeds? I'm not really gaming that often, as I mostly program (learning) and do simple day to day stuff. But when I do get the itch for a game or two it's a pain to unplug the display port every single time I want to swap between my PC and Mac, as I want the 100hz option on both.

I know this might not be the best subreddit to post this, but I really have no idea where else to ask. Any help would be much appreciated!
