Sorry for the kind of general question, but I wanted to get peoples' input here, since in the next year or so I'm going to be overhauling my computer(s) setup, and am kind of torn between waiting for the 15-inch with dedicated GPU MacBook to refresh and get a decked-out version of that, or alternatively, to get a new MacBook or MacBook Air for my "to-go" computer, and stick with a hackintosh desktop for gaming and home use.

My main hang-up is that while I am always a tinkerer at heart and love the build and setup aspects of a Hackintosh for some reasons, I also am hooked on Mac for my productive stream and hobbies at home (mostly music), and in that sense would love to be able to "set it and forget it" and take full advantage of the "it just works" nature of a mac.

Mostly in the sense that I would love to not have to worry about each update breaking everything, and taking a moment to "slow down" and reorganize everything on each update. Also I currently don't use iMessage or FaceTime (Android phone user) but having that work would be nice if I did need it.

I also am a part-time gamer, and just am not sure if I am willing to give up the ability to play games that are coming down the line (GTAV is already preloaded in my Steam account) without desktop hardware. I'm not sure how far I would get even with a top of the line MacBook Pro with SkyLake Intel processing etc. when it inevitably gets released as opposed to a desktop hardware hackintosh with its own dedicated Windows 10 SSD.

So what do you guys think? Will the TonyMacx86 community and this one and others be around and updating enough to justify maintaining a hackintosh as a "main computer?" Even just having the "about my mac" show my hackintosh as a 2008 model makes my antsy about the future-proof nature of a similar setup.

Also, in terms of hardware parity, would a ~$1000 MacBook or Air and a solid gaming hackintosh setup still be an overall greater value than a top of the line pimped out 15-inch macbook pro refresh when they drop?

Cheers.
