"You need to restart your computer" Kernel panic screen from iBoot. Thoughts on fixing it?

I'm working to get OS X on my laptop (using an authentic snow leopard retail dvd as a jumping point to upgrade to later OSs as I have no access to a Mac) and keep coming to this error screen.

Some steps I have taken to get to this point:

• removed 4/8gb memory to achieve recommended 4 total

• disabled secure boot

• enabled legacy boot

Any help will be appreciated.
